California Senate Bill (SB) 1383

Mandates that all businesses, residents, and multifamily properties separate organic materials (such as plant debris, food waste, food-soiled papers, untreated wood waste) and recyclable materials from trash. Starting January 1, 2022, businesses must be in compliance with the laws to prevent substantial fines. The BEC has created tools to help our member businesses meet or exceed the requirements of this SLCP (SB-1383) legislation and as much as possible, with a goal to mitigate or avoid the mandatory fines associated with violation of the regulations.
